Helen (IT's mom) (mum: Saphie's mom!!) invited us over for Chinese New Year dinner!!

That's my seat beside mum! I love mum, she eats so much that she's always the last to leave the table and that means I'm being fed healthy table scraps the whole time!

STINKY was suppose to go too, but he "played" with a skunk in the afternoon (mum: for the gazillionth time....), and even though he had a de-skunking bath, he still smelled.

CNY din din sounds wonderful right?? Well, the food was great, but LOOK AT WHAT I HAD TO DEAL WITH @$%&#!!!

Not only was IT annoying, IT was hogging EVERYONE's attention $%&@#.....

That's Helen's niece, Ann, holding IT while D-Guy played video game with the boys,

When D-Guy was done playing, he held IT too..... #%@$&...

HEY! How about someone pay attention to the SuperDALE??? I want that chewy inside the crate!!

D-Guy made me come sit beside IT who was sitting ON HIM #$%&!!

I told him to keep IT awaaaaaaaaay from the perfect me!

IT got my message, and did a 180 degree flip/jump to get away from me. D-Guy caught her in the aire,

(mum: Sunshade did a good growl and gave that corner of the eye stare lol. Saphie got the message alright. Sunshade really has zero patience/tolerance for Saphie. She doesn't want the puppy near her, she doesn't even want to see the puppy!)

What was so funny? It was definitely not funny for ME!! (mum: nor Saphie!!!)

@$#%&!!! Why was D-Guy consoling IT?? What about what the pooor me had to put up with???

What happened to Mean Juice???

Remember, this was Mean Juice's home in front of the fireplace,

And Then There Were NONE....

And then mum showed me THIS!

Tell me you're joking please.....

This is not what I think it is..... is it??

OKAY.... yes, I don't like Mean Juice at all, but that doesn't mean I want him headless and skinless!!!

Mum said we were having Juice for breakie..... Come again? see the shock on our faces?

She then cut up Juice.... told me to eat his left arm and chest and one kidney and half lobe of liver....

(mum: Sunshade and Jaffa both eat a raw diet, so rabbit meat is a normal part of the diet.)

Okay, that just totally grossed me out! Even though I don't care about Mean Juice, I still don't want him dead, nevermind EATING him!!! I can't believe mum killed him, beheaded him, cut his paws off, ripped off his fur and skin, and then tried to make me eat him!! She even seared part of him to try to fool me into eating him!!

(mum: I thought she would eat it when she smells the aroma from cooking. I only flash cooked the surface, not enough to get to the bones. Cooked bones are a big no no!)

Yes, I'll eat the raw chicken, just NOT raw bun bun!!!

Afterall, Juice is still the same specie as my dear Georgie and I can't in my good conscience eat him. Remember I used to eat rabbit meat, but as soon as Georgie came, I stopped eating it??

Look who's eating Juice!

He finished Juice's right arm, and then he ate Juice's left arm that mum gave me.... and he wanted more Juice....

Just as I was about to have a nervous breakdown by the cruelty act done by mum AND STINKY, mum told me to follow her,

WHEW!! Mean Juice was still alive, with his head and everything!! He was just living in the garage, which was fine by me!!

(mum: most of you know about the special bond Sunshade had with our previous giant rabbit Georgie. He used to live in the garage, and Sunshade would go down to the garage to check on him, spend time with him every single day, few times a day. When we got Juice last year, I was thinking Sunshade would want to check on him like she did her Georgie. Since Sunshade was now older, I preferred her to not have to go down those slippery hardwood stairs. So I decided to put Juice in the livingroom instead. Well, you all know how much Sunshade "liked" Juice. Basically, she never checked on him, other than to tell him off when he charged at her. Recently, I figured Sunshade wouldn't care if Juice was moved to the garage where Georgie used to live.

Well, it was quite an interesting transition. The day that I moved Juice down to the garage, Sunshade and Jaffa were both hanging out in the yard, so they had no idea what was happening. When Sunshade came into the house later on that day, she knew right away something was up. She looked for Juice. Then she began whining at the staircase going down to the garage. So I led her down the stairs, figured she just needed to know where he was. Well, as soon as she walked into the garage and saw Juice in the pen, she trotted happily towards him with her tail wagging. She was sniffing him, and the tail wagged non-stop. Sunshade NEVER did this with Juice. So right away, I knew... she thought her Georgie came back..... She still associated rabbit in the garage being Georgie as that was where Georgie lived. Well, the gentle happy tail wag lasted about two minutes, all the while Juice was charging at her wherever she moved along the pen. After those two minutes, Sunshade knew he was NOT her Georgie, and the fence fighting started. Have you ever seen a rabbit fence fight a terrier?? Well Juice does it beautifully without backing down. That was the last time Sunshade went down to check on Juice lol. Still, she won't touch rabbit meat!)

Mum told me she tricked me... that the bun bun she tried to give me came from this,

That was a rather sick joke mum!!!!! Juice will probably come bite you in your sleep and you will get more Juice inflicted scars!!

Helen asked mum to bring me over for some Reiki treatment today,

But guess what I had to put up with when I got there???

IT was sitting on MY mum!!! How dare IT!

I couldn't relax because I had to keep my eye on IT.....

I asked Helen very nicely if she could take IT back and get a refund, (stop sitting on MY mum!!!)

(mum: Ohh Sunshade, can't you just see Saphie as one of your piggies??)

You must be KIDDING me right?? Please don't insult MY piggies by comparing to IT!

Helen said she couldn't refund IT ..... because IT's a good stinky (that's an oxymoron).... (mum: Saphie was waiting for her dinner. She "Sits" very nicely whenever she wants something!)

Helen said she's a smart stinky too, (obviously, she didn't meet me when I was a SuperPUP.),

(mum: this is a 9 week old pup, doing "Sit" and "Shake paw", "other paw" on command. Helen is new at training dogs, but is doing well and Saphie seems to be responding well. We are working on not repeating the same command over and over.)

Mum's friend Issy and her mom Lina were there too. They all went to see IT!! (And they're MY fans!!!) Lina did some Reiki on me as well, she has been doing it for 4+ years. But look what's in front of my face!

I've got all MY piggies with me. The babies are two weeks old now, see how big and fat they are? I've been taking good care of them!

I clean ALL my piggies, so they're clean piggies!

When my job is done, I snooze with them. I'm very careful about not having my legs on top of them. Notice one of the babies is between my neck and my front leg? I'd rather fall out of my bed then to crush MY piggies....

LOOK!!!

Remember I didn't know why MY Meatball turned into a real MEATBALL???

Well, this is what happaned!!

I'm a SuperGRANDMA now!!

I take my job very seriously, see, here I was, cleaning them,

And then I put them to bed, (well, almost all of them!)

The little red eyed one finally decided to sleep too,

I love my SuperGRAND-PIGGIES!!!

Aren't they just the cutest? They were only one day old here.

Mum didn't let me see them when they were first born,

She knew I would want to see them and she knew I would get stressed out if I didn't get to see them,

But she was worried that MY gentle cutie Meatball would EAT her babies if she smelled the SuperDALE on them.... How ridiculous does that sound??? My Meatball loves me! (mum: I think hamsters eat their babies...?)

(mum: they were under 7 hours old in this set of pictures. Went to bed at 12, woke up at 7, there they were! See the belly button?)

Meatball had THREE baby piggies in her, can you believe it??

The first one had Meatball's colour,

The second one was grey with brown highlights,

The third one was the littlest one with red eyes, and light grey in colour,

Meatball would put them on their backs to clean them, see!

And then she would feed them after she's fed herself to the point of exploding!

Anyways, D-Guy looked up online (he's the piggie expert!) and said touching was ALLOWED! Piggies don't eat their babies just because they smelled different!!

So I got to do THIS!!

(mum: So... whoever that responded to my ad that said "Female guinea pig wanted" either didn't know or lied because Sesame turned out to be a BOY!! The person that sold us Meatball told me she was a girl, so when I was looking to get her a housemate, I specifically noted the gender as I did not want Sesame Meatballs!!! I never thought to double check! Not that I knew/know how!)

I LOVE how I went from no piggies for 5 years to 5 piggies in one year!!! (mum: more like 6 months...) D-Guy says he wants to keep ALL of them and get all the boys neutered!!! I think D-Guy is my new best friend!!

(mum: that is NOT going to happen, sorry Sunshade.)

This was NOT the New Years Eve surprise I was hoping for when mum disappeared with STINKY for two days.

Christmas Day Walk

Instead of a white Christmas, we had a wet Christmas...

We went to UBC Campus for a walkie,

STINKY found a stickie,

I said what about ME???

I want a stickie too!!!

Off I went!

We continued walking,

To our first destination, (mum: "hers".)

Yes, I first aire-scented, and then I checked under the garbage bin to see if there were any critters.

While I was busy being a good terrier, STINKY and D-Guy were busy being ..... not sure what,

I continued to walk towards my next destination while STINKY ran back and forth,

Sometimes he went as far as that!!! (mum: no cars allowed on that part of the campus unless it's UBC service vehicle.)

Every time STINKY went too far, mum and D-Guy would hide from him, but the hiding spots they picked were always so easy that STINKY he would find them in a flash (seriously).

(mum: I think he finds us so fast because he sees his Sunshade looking directly to her right! Maybe you should hide with us next time??)

I'll consider.

I wanted someone to pay attention to me and MY special rockie!!

D-Guy tried to get me,

I played Keep-Away,

And I won of course,

STINKY started training for his Cirque du Soleil try out,

Anyway, almost to my second destination. Guess where I was going?

Yup, to the GARBAGE!!!

This one was a hit, a squirrelie ran out and into those hedges,

Third destination...

(mum: yes, the route of our Christmas walk went from garbage bin to garbage bin to the next garbage bin... lol. She knows where each is located, and she has to check them out for any rats/mice/squirrels and even raccoons.)

Here we are, and guess what I see?

Then we headed to one of my favouritest spots on campus,

It's STINKY's favouritest places too b/c he's been following me for the last 5 years,

This is a game me and mum invented when she was going to school here back in 2001. I was only 2 years old then. 10 years later, we still come back to the same spot to play the same game. STINKY was introduced to MY game, and after 5 years, he finally got the hang of it!

Then D-Guy wanted to go home because we had been out for 2 hours already. But I wanted to go LEFT, there were more garbage bins that way.....

I wanted to go RIGHT, more garbage bins that way.......

Stoopid D-Guy said NO!!! Humph!

When it's just me and mum, she always gives in to my pleading faces and turn a planned 1 hour walk into 3 hours, but D-Guy, he just walks off!!!!!

Lights, Lights & more LIGHTS!!!

Today, we saw some pretty awesome X-mas LIGHTS!

We went to Canada Place and had our picture taken in front of the beautifully lit Christmas tree. Do you see the blue Olympic Cauldron behind the Christmas tree?

We also went to Stanley Park because Bright Nights was going on,

Bright Nights happen every year around Christmas time in Stanley Park,

Where a bunch of Christmas lights and displays are put out for hoomans and hooman pups to enjoy. Me and a little girrrrl were watching Santa Claus, his arms moved!

We saw WHOOOOOVILLE!

There is even a mini-train that you could take that would take you around the park to see more light displays. If you visit Vancouver during Christmas time, I highly suggest paying a visit to the Bright Nights plus train ride. You do need to buy your tickets ahead of time as you can see here, they sell out fast!

After Bright Nights, we came to a house with 50,000 lights!!

Look at the candy cane gate!

I couldn't believe my SuperEYES.....

Santa and Rudolf were being naughty!!!! Just look at them!

Did you know....

Reindeer experts say that while both male and female reindeer grow antlers every summer, the males drop theirs by early December — which means, given that the reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve are always depicted with full sets of antlers, that every one of them, even Rudolph, must be a girl!

STINKY came to see too,

I tried to break them up. I mean, little hooman pups come here you know??

Merry Christmas and Happy Howlidays!!

Getting the picture above was NOT an easy task......

When it was just me and MY piggies, everything was Merry,

Harmonious,

Heart-warming,

And Festive,

I kept my eyes open for the ever lurking crows... Not allowed to eat MY piggies!

Everything was still (surprisingly) fine when STINKY was added in the picture,

I did give him a slight warning to not step on MY Meatball and Sesame,

STINKY did what I asked of him, so no problem there,

I even gave him Sesame to be pictured beside him,

What happened when mean Juice was brought in the picture??

He charged at me, I growled at him, he charged at STINKY, STINKY jumped off the table, he continued to charge at me, my growls grew more intense while trying to protect MY piggies, mum frantically tried to stop Juice from charging at me while telling the perfect me to stop growling, all the while STINKY was rolling around on the muddy grass trying to get his santa coat off.

(mum: The way Sunshade is with her guinea pigs is a lot like the way she was with her last rabbit Georgie, so loving and protective. The way she is with Juice is completely different even though he's the same type of rabbit as Georgie.)

Even after STINKY was off the table, mean Juice was still trying to get his head,

STINKY finally decided to move away from Juice's jaw of death,

(mum: Sunshade's ears were held low in all these pictures because she was growling the whole time! Everytime the intensity of the growl got to the point where her ears were basically flattened, I would tell her to stop it, and they would return to the semi-low setting with the low growl.

One alpha dale + two GP's; piece of cake.
One alpha dale + one beta dale + two GP's; piece of cake.
One alpha dale + one beta dale + two GP's + one super alpha rabbit; all hell breaks loose!

I received one bite (broke the skin), and a bunch of scratches (broke the skin too) from Juice, the wonderful rabbit..... I should also mention, Derek was not home; I actually did the entire dress up/photoshoot on my own!)

This was the best we could do unfortunately.....

After mean Juice was put back, I asked mum if she was satisfied...

She said almost (can you believe it???)....

She wanted a couple pictures of just me and STINKY.....

Sesame!!!!!

Well, D-Guy (of course...) liked Meatball so much that he did a bit of research online and told mum that guinea piggies don't do well living solitary lives. They like companionship (of another piggie not SuperDALE unfortunately....). So mum posted another ad on Craigslist and said she was looking for a gurrrrrl piggie.

This was the girlie piggie we got!!

She's a lot more active than Meatball,

She's curious,

And I think she likes ME!!!!

I snuggle with her too,

And I clean her with my SuperTONGUE,

I'm so happy I got a second piggie!!! You can never have too many piggies!!!

Here is a video of me and Sesame. I sometimes nibble on her coat gently, and cleans her bum bum (hoping for treats)! I also don't like it when my piggies disappear from my sight.....

I hope you aren't tired of seeing me and MY Meatball yet because I have a lot of pictures I want to post Post POST!!!

D-Guy is always messing with MY Meatball.... Today, he put her into his mean Juice's pen,

I kept a close watch on them, to make sure mean Juice didn't bully MY Meatball,

Thankfully, Juice was good with Meatball, but I decided that I wanted MY Meatball OUT!!!

MY Meatball is safe now.....

I'll protect her no matter what!

When I get tired.....

Meatball's First Day Home

This was when I first met Meatball,

D-Guy thought I was a little too excited, so he was a bit worried about putting Meatball down (even though mum told him that I, her dogter, would be good with it),

Finally, he let her down, but his hands were still in the protective position,

I told him to relax, I'm a (guinea pig) lover and not an eater!

I checked to see if she deposited treats like MY Georgie used to for me,

Then D-Guy decided that I had spent enough time with MY Meatball, so he decided to hog her...... (mum: he googled and told me that gp's like to sit on shoulders...)

I said NO WAY are you having MY Meatball all to yourself!!! SuperDALE coming thruuuuuu!

D-Guy started working like this...

With MY Meatball on his shoulder and he wouldn't let me have her!!!

Mum was a little creeped out by D-Guy's behaviour so she asked him if he's had pets growing up. He said, "Yes, a goldfish". I guess that explained his attachment to these small animals (he loves Juice too...).

Isn't MY Meatball cute?? She really loves to eat. Here she was, eating a banana.

Mum posted an ad on Craigslist saying she wanted a guinea piggie for her dogter (mum: I wrote "daughter".), and a few people responded. Mum thought Meatball was the cutest, so she paid $10 and brought her home to me - her dogter!

Anyway, D-Guy continued to work like this until Meatball peed on him LOL!

Juice met Meatball, he was actually very nice to her which was surprising!! He was quite little then, only 10 weeks old.

This is me and my long awaited guinea piggie,

Her name is "Meatball" because she loves to eat and she's kinda heavy, just look at my head hang... but I don't mind.

I'm SOOO happy that I finally got MY guinea piggie, after FIVE long years!!!!

I love MY Meatball a lot,

We lie together in bed like this for hours,

These pictures were actually taken on June 24th, 2011. Mum said Meatball was my early birfday pressie, which (she said) was the reason why I didn't get another guinea piggie on MY 12th birfday.... Honestly though, I could always do with more guinea piggies. I just LOVE them!!!

Birthday Shopping

Ok, I know it is ridiculous that I'm STILL posting about my 12th Birthday when it's almost Christmas!!! But, it was an important day so I have to post about it... so bear with me please.....

Before we headed to the River Rock Casino Resort for the celebration, we stopped by one of my favouritest places to go to,

It is one of my favouritest places to go to for 3 reasons....

REASON 1: (you need to read for a bit before you find out)

As soon as I walked into the store, I started using my nose on EVERYTHING,

Checked every box,

I walked by the area where they were selling fish tank stands,

I smelled something with my SuperNOSE,

It was IN there!!

D-Guy opened it for me while mum braced herself from the SuperFORCE I was exerting,

I was RIGHT!! Do you see those rodent droppings? I've caught mice in the store before!!

(mum: they come in with the shipments and make homes all over the store. Sunshade has found them everywhere, including in the dog bed section.)

REASON 2:

Look at all the yummies!!!

Unfortunately, mum never buys us any foodables from here.....

I've wanted one of these for SO long!!

There were practically signs (pun intended) EVERYWHERE that said Miss Sunshade should get a Guinea Piggie on her 12th Birthday!!!

I REALLY want a Guinea Piggie......

(mum: Sunshade was/is ONLY interested in the guinea pigs. She walked by the cage where they were keeping the ferrets, and a couple of them actually stuck their little arms/noses out. She had absolutely NO interest in them whatsoever. She could careless about the rats/hamsters/mice/gerbils that were in the windows (it's only fun when she sniffs them out while in her hunting mode).)

Do you know how LONG I have been desperate for a GP?? I found these photos recently, they were taken FIVE years ago when I was 7 years old.....

Please don't get distracted, you're suppose to be looking at the GP's.

Seriously, don't you think I deserve to have a Guinea Piggie on my 12th Birthday after waiting for 5+ long years?

Well, Evil-mum said NOOOOOOOO guinea pig for me on MY birfday...... (and I have to deal with MEAN Juice!!!!!)

Mum has been busy, but I told her I WASN'T FINISHED WITH MY 12TH BIRFDAY POSTS YET!!!

SO........

This was what I did as soon as I woke up on my 12th birfday, (btw, if you need some window art done, I'm up for hire. I take tripe stickies as payment.)

I picked out a birfday pressie for myself, from this big box!!

Mum met a Facebook friend, Linda, at Canada's Biggest Dog Show last month, and Linda told mum that she could get a BIG box of one of my favouritest treats (the stinky tripe stickies) for only $50. This was Linda at the Tripe vendor with her 11 year old Airedale Pee-ka-boo!!

I wanted to take MY (self-given) birfday pressie out to enjoy in MY yard,

Mum traded me with another bag, one that was MUCH lighter....

I took it anyway,

And out I went!

I opened the bag the SuperDALE way,

Got the tripe stick out, and ate it the SuperDALE way as well,

When I was done, I asked mum why the bag she gave me was so much lighter than the bag I had initially picked out,

However, before mum could answer, I spotted intruders (can you spot the two of them??)

I HATE crow crows!! They are ALWAYS watching me when I'm eating!! (mum: she goes berserk whenever she hears me say "crow crow" lol!)

So I always try to keep MY yard crow crow free!!

I might have slipped out a few profanities here and there.....

Must I jump out of my second floor window to get you?????? Because I WILL!!!!

That's right! Fly, FLY AWAAAAAAY!!!

AND NEVER COME BACK!!!

I went back inside, and got myself another birfday pressie,

Evil-mum took the pressie away from me, so I went and got a second baggie and wanted OUT with it!

With every pressie that I took for myself, Evil-mum would take it away, and put it on the counter,

Told her to GIVE IT!!

But she said NOOOOO....

So,

Third time's the charm right???

WRONG!!! She made me drop-it...... (she used her scawie voice)

Maybe the 4th bag??

No go.....

5th bag!!

(mum: I don't know why Jaffa makes that whining noise only when he's sucking on a stuffy. He falls asleep with a stuffy in his mouth every night, and before he does, he whines! As soon as you take the stuffy away, he stops whining!! Anyone know why this might be??)

After I went outside, mum came out with ONE tripe stickie and traded me for the whole bag - bad deal but too yummy to resist...

By the time I came in, I saw Evil mum had done this......

Can you believe it???

That's no way to treat a birfday gurrrrrrl!

Oh well, TAKE THIS!!

Well, at least I got a little bit out of it.....

Then I taught a birfday lecture,

It's MY birfday, I can do no wrong!

(mum: I know Sunshade appears totally and utterly out of control in this post. The truth is, those are behaviours that I know if I really told her to stop, she would. They are also behaviours that she would only ever do when she is in a very happy mood. Fortunately for me, she's only in her very happy mood when I'm around. In other words, the box of tripe treats are left on the ground 100% of the time and she would never touch them while I'm out (as soon as I come home, she would go grab a bag and either throw it around or go stand by the door lol). Same with counter surfing, since controlling her Cushing's Disease, she hasn't counter surfed or scrounged for food when left alone. So, please don't follow my example if you have a dog that is in the training stage.

With all that said, Sunshade must have known it was her birthday or something as she's never done ALL THAT within a one hour span!!)

12th Birthday Beach Shots

It has been raining a lot over here on the west coast, but surprisingly, we had clear sky on MY birfday!!

We took this opportunity to go to the beach for a photoshoot,

As soon as I got out of the car, I ran towards the beach! Of course, never without my RING!!

I sat on a slanted stump to be photographed,

I looked bootiful for them, (I'm a PROOOO at modeling. I started young at 7 weeks old.)

Then I requested a break,

Of course, not without MY RING!

I demanded for someone to PLAY WITH ME!!!

Me and MY special RING,

I took a sandbath,

Did a nose shot,

Then I met a handsome,

Told him it was my 12th Birfday,

And we did a birfday dance together!

Back to work!

Mum wanted my feet up on a log,

She wanted my tongue out (half way),

Wanted a "gurrrlie pose",

Now she wanted my tongue out fully,

And that was a wrap!

I was rewarded with treats,

And kissies (although I really DON'T like kissies!)

I did a happy run because I was feeling VERY happy!!

(mum: Sunshade has always been a happy girrrrl, but for some reason, she was extra happy, and full of beans from the moment she woke up on her birthday to the moment she went to bed. It was almost as if she knew it was HER birthday! Derek thought she was just reflecting off my energy because according to him, I was extra happy too LOL.)

My 12th B-Day Celebration @ River Rock Casino Resort

This year, mum decided that instead of celebrating my birfday at home, we would go "somewhere".

So tonight, we arrived at this place!

River Rock Casino Resort is located in Richmond, BC. It is only about 25 minutes drive from our house, but I've never been here until tonight. People pawty there all night long you know?

(mum: Sunshade LOVES to go to new places; people's houses and hotels. So I thought we would spend the night at a hotel this year!)

We checked in, and I led the way to our hotel room,

Found the room,

Located MY bed,

Assumed my position on the comfy bed,

STINKY assumed his position, following my leadership,

Some comfy pillow I tell ya...

He copied me... of course,

Then I saw mum started getting really busy, taking out yummies and cutting them and putting them on plates,

She lit the candles, (I didn't like the smell of it in the beginning....)

Candles all lit!!

Is it time to eat yet??

No? Ok, this is what the meal consists:

On the left, we have the salmon brownies that I LOVE sooooooooo much!

Remember, these were the Brownies I love so much so that I shoplifted it once! (mum: she got the brownies for free b/c the store owner found her to be very cute shoplifting! Strange the way things work around doGs!)

On the right we have succulent beef steak, corn on the cob (half of it), and roasted sweet potato!

I'm getting I-M-P-A-T-I-E-N-T!!!!

Ok, forget about the stooopid "wait" & "leave command", it's MY birfday!!

I sang Happy Birfday To ME,

And I just really wanted to E-A-T!!!

Mum said almost......

Wait, what is this??? Why does STINKY get something too???

(mum: you celebrated his birthday, so he gets to celebrate yours too!!)

Ok fine, I just REALLY want to eat now ok???

After our birfday celebration, mum and D-Guy said we should go walk around the casino resort.

For some strange reason, they seemed to be celebrating X-mas already. Didn't they know it was the SuperDALE's birfday? The day should really be a national howliday!

We walked to the theatre,

Whenever mum makes us pose, so many people come and take pictures of us too. They tell us how cute we are, how well behaved we are. While I appreciate the compliments, it also means that I always end up sitting there for like EVER! (mum: they are such patient pups...)

After the photoshoot, we went to walk along the Broadwalk that looped around the hotel,

I remembered the poker room was still open,

The night was still young, I decided to have a game of poker. Look at STINKY's loser face already, before the game even begun! We bet on chips and salmon brownies!

First hand, I got NOTHIN'! And he got a pair of Kings, a pair of Queens, and an Ace???? Look at that smirk on his face!

Look at my brownie plate on the left.... I lost some to STINKY...

Second hand, three Kings for me!!

That's gotta be good right???

He got a STRAIGHT!!! #$%@ stick your tongue back in!

Mum said it was time for bed.... (so she and D-Guy could go to the casino)

When they came back, mum woke me up to show me this,

She said they had lost money all night, and before leaving, D-Guy said she should go play a game of roulette and bet on the numbers 11 and 25 since my birthday was on November 25th. So mum put down a ONE DOLLAR bet on 11, 25, and 13 (dunno why she bet on 13...) (mum: Jaffa's birthday was on November 13th!). Guess which number won??

25!!

That's right! The only 25 all night for that table! So I made some money back for them!

(mum: I totally should have put down at least a $10 bet knowing Sunshade'd never let me down!!!!)

Happy 12th Birthday Sunshade - by mum

Sunshade has given me the BEST 12 years of my life, and she was there with me every step of the way. I don't think I need to say how much I love her over and over again because, words just aren't enough to describe what we have.

So far, we've been very busy celebrating with the birthday girrrrrl! We will be posting how she spent her birthday, the celebration, and presents over the last few days. For now, I'm going to share with you something I wrote for the Airedales! We Luv Hairdale Terrors Group on Facebook last year.

Sunshade is my first dog, my first Airedale. She is my introduction to this amazing, clownish, one of a kind breed, and the reason I'm hooked on Airedales for life.

I moved out on my own when I was 16 due to an ugly divorce happening at home. My father got me an 8 week old Airedale puppy to keep me company. That puppy was later named Sunshade. I was in Grade 11 then, and her sole caretaker. She waited patiently for me everyday while I was at school. I didn't know about dog walkers or daycares like I do now. She was so easy, house trained at 4 months, never chewed anything, never a nuisance to the neighbours. She was perfect. She was so perfect that I never thought anything different needed to be done. It wasn't until years later did I realize how un-usual her perfection was, especially for the breed, and at such a young age. It was almost like Sunshade was only meant to be with me so things were made possible for us to be together. Everyday after I got home from school, it was just our evening together. We went to parks, walked the streets, and visited my friends. Sunshade didn't have a family like most well loved dogs had. She never had anyone else to look forward to other than me. Surprisingly, she seemed content with that.

She saw me through high school, University and finally into the work force. Shortly after welcoming Sunshade into my life, she began to show me in every way that she was so much more than "just a dog". Thus, elevating her status to that of a human child to me.

She was very intuitive and very in tuned with my emotions. During my first year in Vancouver (I was 17), a drunk, homeless person decided to follow us on one of our nightly strolls. I was feeling uneasy, so I crossed the street to go to the opposite side walk. Sunshade followed me back and forth for some time. Eventually, she, then an 18 months old pup, decided that ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH. She turned around, walked toward him (ignoring my "NO" and "come" commands), and parked herself in front of the homeless man who was waving a bottle at her. She didn't do anything other than blocking his access to me. The man didn't take her seriously. He kicked her hard and she fell. However, she wasn't to be intimidated. She got right back up, and still, she stood in between the man and I (and still ignoring all of my commands). The man yelled, she didn't flinch. Finally, he decided to to go around her. Well, that was NOT allowed. He was NOT going to take even one step closer to me. She snarled and bared her her teeth. He was allowed to move in all directions but towards me. When he tried again to go around her the other way, she "held" him there with those deafening Airedale growls and barks (almost like those Schutzhund dogs). At one point she even looked like she was going to bite (but never did). I was a little shocked as I had NEVER seen my puppy in such state before. People in the apartment building next to the side walk must have heard the commotion and called the police. Two policemen showed up. One asked me if he could approach as he thought Sunshade had been trained for personal protection. I was so relieved to see the police that I yelled YES,YES! SHE'S VERY FRIENDLY! As soon as Sunshade saw the first policeman approaching, she walked away from me and the homeless man. She headed straight to the police car where the second policeman was just getting out. Before he could shut the door, Sunshade climbed into the police car and proceeded to checking everything out. She has always had a thing for other people's cars. On her puppy test performed by the breeder, she was tested as a "curious" pup. It is still the case today. I guess she somehow knew the policemen were "good" so she happily left me with them and went to satisfy her curiosity with the police vehicle. One of the policeman said to me - "that's a great Airedale you've got there. They were war dogs you know?"

Sunshade is confident, yet calm. Those personality traits make it possible for her to accompany me everywhere I go. She doesn't get stressed and is never a nuisance. Yes... she attended many of my lecture classes during my years at the University of British Columbia.

In all the years I've been blessed with Sunshade, she has never failed to amaze me at the amount of "work" she's able to accomplish with her determination and high intelligence. With "work", I mean opening cupboards & drawers, un-locking car doors and etc. If you are on the Airedale Armageddon group, you might be familiar with those "can opening" pictures. The story of Sunshade's ability to unlock car doors was featured in the 2006 Oct-Dec edition of The American Airedale.

At 11 years old, Sunshade has continued to make me laugh on a daily basis with the stunts she pulls, and her unique quirks. She is funny, goofy, and full of character with people who she considers part of her pack, while aloof and standoff-ish (but never shy) with strangers. She is intuitive and protective of what's rightfully hers, and would give her life protecting ones she loves.

Over the last 11 years, Sunshade has been my best friend, my teacher, my loyal protector, and my sanity check-er. The unsurpassed trust and unmatched understanding we have of each other provide the confidence we need to achieve anything together, even in the face of the unknown. She has it in her to always try her best and do (and perfect) whatever it is that I ask of her. I on the other hand, strive to provide the best quality of life, and make her the happiest Aire-girrrrl in my world.

Sunshade is the light of my life, my heart and soul. She is my one in a million; the reason I'm the person I am today.

It's mum's birfday today, and before mum came home, D-Guy told us we had to SIT and STAYYYYY. So when mum walked in, this was what she would see.....

He also told us that there will be NO in between legs head rubbing or head rubbing against each other or head rubbing against beds, pillows, or walls.....

Well, why wasn't D-Guy wearing this on his head HUH??

Happy Birfday mum.... you know there's nothing I wouldn't do for you... now, will you take this thing OFF my boootiful head please?

Not yet of course... she wanted MOOORE pictures.

We each had a balloon attached to our harness. While a shark for STINKY totally made sense (since he's the landshark), I had no idea why mine was a P-I-G????

Okay... thanks for taking the hats off... how 'bout them balloons now??

Happy Birfday Mum!

One suggestion.... I don't think you should let D-Guy plan anymore birfday surprises from now on... just sayin'...

(mum: This is what I came home to today after work! "Airedale" decorations!! Sunshade and Jaffa each had a balloon tied to their harness, and wearing the birthday hats!! I guess the theme for my birthday was Disney Princesses LOL! They actually sat and stayed when I walked in. I was instructed to text before going inside.

Compared to last year's birthday, this was definitely a happier day under happier circumstance. Sunshade had cancer surgery a year ago, on my birthday... and look at her NOW, a year later!!)

5 years......

This morning I heard mum say something about a birfday. Naturally, it had to be mine. So I got a pressie for myself,

(mum: dug it out from inside a box inside the house, pushed the door open on her own and left with her bag of tripe sticks.)

I walked past all MY special rockies, (mum: rocks she's picked and brought home from all over the place.)

With my birfday pressie (from myself) in my mouf,

I successfully made it to safety without being ambushed!

Or so I thought anyway.....

I turned out to be very wrong. Evil-mum had the heart to take MY pressie away from me, and told me that it was NOT MY birfday!!! She said it was STINKY's birfday, so we were going to celebrate HIS day.

Helloooooo??

If what mum said were true, shouldn't today be a consolation day for ME then? For having to put up with FIVE lonnnnnnnng years of landsharking, yard sharing, and just all the stinkiness in general?

But NOOOOOOO, today was all about HIM...... (Yes, that's garbage in his mouf)

He'd gotta have fun.....

And I HAD to play with him..... because it was HIS birfday....

To make sure he didn't do anything strange....

And when he did......

I HAD to TELL HIM!

I HAD to comfort him when he got worried about D-Guy being stuck at the top of the slide,

So much for MY consolation day......

Mum said I did a good job being a good Aunt today, so she went to this place,

And got me a Build Your Own Mac and Cheese!!!

Now let me ask you, what kind of face is THIS??? You'd think there was a ghost sitting beside him or something!

I told him to cut it out and stop looking so pathetic (so that mum could get some decent pictures, so that she would release us to EAT!),

He listened... but for some reason, there was this strange magnetic force pulling him towards the right (your left),

(mum: okay, so... you need to have a lot of guts to sit next to Miss Crocodale when there is food around. Jaffa would never have put himself that close to Sunshade when there's food around. However, he was being a good boy, obeying the stay command I gave him. That being said, Sunshade wasn't threatening him in anyway, but past experiences still lingered in Jaffa's mind lol.)

Then he closed his eyes, sorta like what ostriches do when sense a threat,

We were finally able to EAT!

This is the gluten free pasta with tomato sauce, ground beef, bell pepper, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes,

STINKY had the gluten free pasta with pesto sauce, chicken, bell pepper, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes,

We switched midway; I ate the SuperDALE style,

I thought the pesto one was REALLY yummy!

Girl A is NOT the SuperDALE! I hope you knew that!!!

Girl A has no name yet, so we'll just call her Girl A for now. I guess I'll have to start from the beginning......

Mum recently became a volunteer for AireCanada Rescue (Mum: Airedale Rescue of Canada.), because she wanted to help Airedales who aren't as fortunate as me to better lives. Before she became a volunteer, we were making regular donations from the proceeds made through Squaire Dog Grooming. Now mum will be the one to do home checks on potential adoptive homes in the Vancouver area, and also to groom some of the dales that come into rescue. Of course, we will continue to make donations to AireCanada as long as mum continues to groom!

Well, a little over a week ago, someone told mum about a family wanting to rehome their Airedale. The family was going to take the dale to the pound. So mum talked with a couple of rescue coordinators, and they decided that they would take the dog in.

Soooo, mum went to pick up Girl A (without consulting with me first!).

(Mum: The only information I was given on Girl A was that she was 6 years old, good with people (kids), good with dogs, in good health, registered with papers, and they just didn't have time for her anymore. They did not have a picture of her to send me.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Girl A trotted out from the room she was being kept.

Black ears..... creamy colouring...... super fluffy..... SHE WAS A SHEEPCOAT!! Those of you that have been following the blog over the years know that Sunshade has a very rare type of coat that's considered anomaly of the breed. What a nice surprise it was; my first Airedale being a sheepcoat, and now my first rescue was a sheepcoat as well!

Girl A came right up to me wiggling and Aire-snapping because she was so happy. Then I learned from talking to the male owner that this girl was being kept in the filthy room (did not want me to see) 24/7. She was almost never walked, sometimes not even let out to do her business (because it was the kids' job to let her out and they sometimes forget, I quote), so she ended up going inside. Because she was peeing/pooping inside, she was banished to the little room. She was fed when the kids remembered, otherwise, she didn't get fed everyday (because it was the kids' job to feed her). I also learned that these people were her 2 owner. She was rehomed when she was 3 by her first owner, and now at 6, she was about to be given up again.

After I got acquainted with Girl A, I brought Jaffa in to make sure she was good with dogs. She was excellent with him, Jaffa didn't pay much attention to her, which was a bit surprising. He usually goes nutty over Airedales! Instead of trying to play with Girl A, Jaffa decided to go investigate what was behind that closed door where Girl A was being kept. The door was shut, but Jaffa nudged it with his nose, and pushed it open. As soon as the door opened, his one leg went up, and he backed away. He DID NOT want to enter that room. That was the first time I got a glimpse to where Girl A was being kept. I did not even have to take a step closer to smell the stench. There were torn, grossly stained carpet every where, shredded books and papers on the ground, kibbles scattered, etc. There was no water because I was told that they stopped giving her water whenever they were away (which was 14+ hrs a day according to them) to stop her from having accidents.

The rescue had a foster home lined up for her already, so I just had to get her out of there successfully. And I did. I was happy I got Girl A out of the situation. She was a lovely girl who was still so happy, friendly, and trusting despite what she'd been through. She deserved better, way better, and I'm glad I played a part in making this beautiful girl's life better.)

Even though I didn't like to share what was MINE, I was being a good sport. Mum brought Girl A home, this is what she looked like when she came,

(Mum: I know first hand how easily the sheepcoats mat. They mat much much more easily than any other soft coated Airedales. The girl was totally unkempt, probably never brushed. She did have patches of shorter hair, so I think they did try to cut some of the mats out. Still, she was matted pretty much down to the skin in a lot of places, especially around her hind end. She was very smelly too being cooped up in that dirty little room.)

Mum brought her to my friend Faye's house and introduced her to Faye, (From left to right: Girl A, STINKY, the bootiful me, and Faye with the wicket cool ears)

I gave her a tour of Faye's house,

Showed her Faye's bed, and Faye's couch,

Took her to Faye's kitchen,

Gave her a stern talk about where Faye's food was (to the left) and how she should NOT touch it, (Please note, something very MUSCULAR and attractive in the center of the photo!)

Then it was stairs time,

Told her to go down the stairs,

And bring the ball back up to me,

She didn't seem to understand that though....

So I had to break it to her that I'm the QUEEN here and I run the show (yes, even at Faye's house)!!

Just as I was finishing up the tour (Mum: more like a lecture!), I looked and saw STINKY doing this!!!

He said MY tour was boring! How disrespectful!!!

(Mum: Jaffa had had enough of THREE girrrrrls lol!)

After the visit with Faye, mum groomed Girl A,

What a difference!

I don't mind mum grooming her at all, but I kept seeing mum STARING at her, smiling AND taking photos of HER......

(Mum: I have only ever met one other sheepcoated Airedale in person, and that dog was shaved. I just couldn't believe how much the sheepcoats make them look alike, especially after grooming! When I look at them closely, I could see the shape of their eyes, heads, ear set, body built are very different. But the coat similarity alone is enough to throw anyone for a loop! Sunshade's colouring is a bit lighter now than Girl A's, and that's because she's twice her age. She used to be just as dark.

BTW, I have decided that a sheepcoat somehow hides age very well. Girl A looks like a pup instead of a 6 year old. Pretty Girl B will be 12 in a couple of weeks!!)

Not only that, I kept seeing mum putting MY treats in HER mouf......

I was NOT happy about that!!!

To make matters worse, I saw D-Guy petting Girl A, AND he said "Hi, Sunshade clone" to her!!!!

I couldn't believe it!

Did you hear that mum??? He called her a SuperDALE CLONE while petting her!!!

I told D-Guy that there will NEVER be another Sunshade aka. SuperDALE!

I decided to go over to D-Guy's side to make my point clear,

Told Girl A to STAYYYYYY on this side!

Good girl Girl A...

You STAAAAAAAAY!

You got all that D-Guy? Did I make myself clear??

Now the very important part, Girl A will need a forever home soon,

She stayed with us for 3 days, and today, her foster mom, Margaret came to pick her up, (Mum: Margaret is a retired Airedale breeder. She used to breed fabulous Airedales. Her kennel name was Rollingstone. I just recently found out that all of Margaret's Airedales were related to Sunshade (and Jaffa) by the same grandfather; a dog bred/owned by my breeder.)

Girl A will be staying with Margaret and the handsome, 13 yr old Fox (red collar), until she's ready for adoption. (Mum: Girl A will get a full check up at the vets to make sure she has no health issues. If any problems are found, she will be treated before she is put up for adoption. While in foster care, Girl A's behaviour will be monitored to make sure there are no behavioural problems. It usually takes at least a few weeks to have a full assessment, and if the she is deemed adoptable, then she will be put up for adoption then.)

So I REALLY need someone nice to adopt her BEFORE mum has a total melt down and brings her home... (mum had to go to AA meetings for her Airedale Addiction a few years ago. She's a recovered Airedaleholic, but this is like the perfect recipe for a major RELAPSE!)

If she has a relapse, I'm afraid history will be repeating itself.... and I will have no choice but to move out like I did last time with MY Georgie,

D-Guy said he will come with me if mum brought Girl A home. (Mum: Derek took one look at Girl A, and he knew he was in danger. The first thing he said to me after was - oh no no no, you can't keep her just because she looks like Sunshade!)

The thing is though, D-Guy wants to bring Juice the Bully with us too.... And I DO NOT like Juice. He is NOTHING like MY Georgie.

Juice was mean to me the first day he came, and he continued to be meaner as he grew older. I took his charging and biting for so long, and then I had had ENOUGH! So now whenever I see him coming towards me, I warn him,

(Mum: Sunshade got on the bean bag and laid down, Juice saw her and ran at her. The bean bag was quite close to the pen, so Sunshade thought he was charging at her again. I have quite a few little scars on my hand from him biting me and drawing blood while I was pouring water or filling his food bowl. So now Derek feeds him.)

D-Guy LOVES Juice, he thinks he's the coolest (because he can take on Airedales)....,

(Mum: we had to rotate the bean bag so Sunshade couldn't see him running towards her lol. Juice is not the least bit afraid of the dogs...)

So I'm begging you to please give Girl A a great home when she is ready for adoption. You can contact the BC Rescue Coordinators via the websites below if you are interested in Girl A:

The coil bound booklet also features photographs and drawings of LL illustrating her various misadventures and transgressions. At 68 pages, this is a much larger book than the original Starfish Stories.

Hanging with Gustav

Gustav, Squaire Dog Grooming's very first customer came for grooming today,

He's very happy about being here, even on the grooming table (which I don't understand!),

Gustav is a very calm boy, which I like. I think all dogs should be calm, period!

Mum gave me a bone bone to eat earlier. She blocked me off because, well, I *ahem* do not like to share my foodables with other doggies.

I've finished my bone, I want to come through now ok?

I SAID...

NOOOOOOOOW!!

Mum was too slow (or too busy taking pictures!!). So I thought I would just help myself through,

I can always count on ME!

Now that's much better!

However, I soon regretted my decision to push through the fence......

She thought it would be a "cute" picture, said something about two fluffballs....

Finally, she started working on Gustav and left me alone. Gustav was half done here, he thought he was done, so he went to the door,

He thought maybe if he sat nicely, he would get to leave,

But he wasn't done yet! (Mum: I had done a rough clipped, given him a bath & blow dry. Still needed to do scissor work.)

Finally!

He was DONE!

He was pleased,

He asked if he could go then,

Mum said nope, she had other plans......

(Mum: you know whose turn is next????) I know STINKY's haire is really long right now!

I hope you've all had a SAFE and fun Howl-loween!!

Mum took us costume shopping about a week ago. She INSISTED that I picked a costume.

This was me......

STINKY of course, picked one to match mine....

If you recall, this was me last year.....

And the year before..... (a SKUNK!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?)

So HOOOOOWL do I look this year compare to the previous years?

I didn't get to pick my previous costumes (OBVIOUSLY!!), but I thought I did a pretty good job this year picking something that didn't look totally STOOOOOPID!

It's actually quite comfortable that I could run and play in it no problem,
